Marketing magazine’s Multicultural Marketing Conference returns to Vancouver this week.

Later this week, B.C.’s business community will be reminded about the often-overlooked customer goldmine that is the region’s multicultural population. Marketing magazine, Canada’s trade magazine for media, advertising and public relations professionals, returns to Vancouver on Thursday, Mar. 28 for a half-day event called the Multicultural Marketing Conference.

Running from 7:45 until noon at Omni Studios in downtown Vancouver, the event features Western Union’s director of marketing Joycelyn David outlining the do’s and don’ts of multicultural advertising, as well as Western Union’s proprietary campaigns focusing on Aboriginal, Filipino, South Asian and Indo-Chinese consumers. A panel discussion titled “New Immigrants, New Strategies” explores how marketers can successfully make a first impression on new Canadians. Panelist Stanley Furtado from Dyversity Communications plans to kick off the panel by providing details of WelcomePack Canada, a new CRM and direct marketing initiative targeted at helping advertisers reach new immigrants. She’ll be joined by YWCA Metro Vancouver Puspa Affandi and Angela MacKenzie, Community Relations Manager, Kirk & Co. Consulting Ltd.

The event’s case study by broadcaster and media strategist Adeel Suhrwardy will focus on the Canadian multicultural TV series called Mangoes and what he’s learned about building “a social media following among ethnic audiences.” The event ends with a keynote by Nick Noorani, President & CEO at Nick Noorani Business Group titled “Impact of New Visa Rules—What the Future Holds for Multicultural Marketing Opportunities.”
