The Whistler-based cloud app that uses facial recognition to clock employees in and out has secured funding from big names in the tech community

Yet another Vancouver-area tech startup star is on the rise.

Technology industry blog TechVibes is reporting that Whistler-based PayrollHero has managed to nail down $1 million in seed funding from big names in Canada’s tech industry, including venture capitalist firm LX Ventures, 500 Startups, 8capita Partners, Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes, and a number of other prominent angel investors.

When some of the biggest names in the local tech industry are throwing their substantial influence (and finances) behind a fledgling firm, it means it’s a good idea to keep an eye on this startup.

According to the company’s site, PayrollHero’s mission is to “optimize work productivity.” Their web and mobile app is unique in that it uses facial recognition software to make it easy for employees to clock in and out and track scheduling and payroll, all from the cloud.

The startup currently only uses the app in Southeast Asia, but with a decent round of fresh seed funding, there’s always the possibility of expansion.
