Delta’s only International Baccalaureate Continuum school helps students and teachers grow, develop and thrive
In the heart of South Delta, where ocean views and peaceful nature reserves are the setting for a growing community of enriched learners and educators, Southpointe Academy is a beacon for students—and teachers seeking a fulfilling career and opportunity to flourish. The growing independent school opened its doors in 2000 and offers the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum Programme—an internationally respected framework that encourages curiosity, critical thinking and a global mindset that is life-changing.
Southpointe is the only IB Continuum school in Delta, and one of a select few in Canada to offer the IB programme from kindergarten through grade 12. Families are drawn to the programme because of its international reputation for helping students become kind, responsible citizens who contribute locally and globally and who are open-minded, resilient and principled in the pursuit of their passions.
But teaching at Southpointe is also a calling for educators who wish to connect, develop and grow. Southpointe is a values-driven, people-first school with a shared sense of mission and purpose across staff, students and families.
“Everyone at the school believes in our common goal of nurturing a generation of young leaders and people of character who will make the world a better place,” says Gordon MacIntyre, head of school at Southpointe Academy. “The power of this life-changing mission, lived out in an environment of togetherness and genuine care for each other, creates a strong culture of belonging.”
Teachers at Southpointe feel part of something bigger. They join a close-knit team doing meaningful work, and a culture where teachers are supported and empowered by strong relationships and trust among teachers and students alike.
This environment, where empathy, belonging and care are part of every day, illuminates for teachers the many ways they genuinely make a difference in the lives of students. They are encouraged to share passions and interests with students through a variety of athletics, arts, outdoor education and service-learning offerings that complement the core academic program. It is a well-rounded experience for both students and teachers.
Southpointe seeks out talented, hard-working, committed teachers who want to be part of something bigger than themselves, and who routinely go the extra mile to help students enjoy success.
“The rich, diverse backgrounds of our staff enhance the learning of students, in both the curriculum and co-curricular programs,” MacIntyre says.
Southpointe is on an impressive trajectory of growth and expansion, which brings new possibilities. Enrollment is expected to increase over the next five years, which will create even more opportunities for teachers to grow professionally. The school takes pride in providing strong support for teachers’ professional development, so they can pursue their goals and foster their career growth.
“Southpointe builds leadership capacity within its staff, as reflected in the number of teachers who take on additional leadership roles,” MacIntyre says. “Teachers at Southpointe enjoy a multitude of opportunities to develop their careers over time and realize their full potential.
“As we continue to grow, we love connecting with educators who share our purpose,” he adds. “We’re always open to conversations with passionate teachers who feel aligned with our values.”
“If you see yourself in this vision, we’d love to hear from you.”
