Western Living's 7th annual Designers of the Year awards ceremony attracted almost 700 guests at the London Aviation Centre at the Vancouver International Airport, celebrating the best of the best in Western Canada. Guests walked the red carpet and enjoyed a cocktail reception before the awards ceremony, which kicked off the Western Living Design Week celebrating the brightest names in design. Helicopters and airplanes shared space with designers as guests mingled.
An unprecedented sweep of three categories went to Tony Robins of A.A. Robins Architect judged by a panel including architects Tom Kundig and Michael Green along with interior designer Alda Pereira. Robins emerged a winner for his holistic approach to stunning, sustainable design.
The winners were celebrated in seven categories: Architecture/Interiors/Eco: A.A. Robins Architect; Furniture: MTH Woodworks; Industrial: Lukas Peet; Fashion: Redfish Kids; Landscape: Green over Grey. Robert Ledingham Memorial Award winner: Atmosphere Interior Design. Arthur Erickson Memorial Award for emerging architect: McLeod Bovell Modern Houses.
