The City of Vancouver recently announced that its long-awaited public bike-share program will launch this summer. Because helmets are mandatory for cyclists in Vancouver, helmets will be provided free of charge—yet a UBC study of bicycling hospitalisation rates in Canadian jurisdictions with different helmet legislation found no decrease in head injury rates.
