Week Before the Games

This is Olympic Vancouver, through the eyes of Cole and Jakob, two local sharpshooters.

Remember when there were, oh, five years on the countdown? Well, the big show’s almost here.

Downtown Vancouver is undergoing a major facelift for the Games, and there isn’t anything too big to plaster with Olympic spirit.

The billion dollars being spent on security is one of the most visible parts of the Games, as seen here in False Creek.

One of the busiest places during the Games is going to be Robson Street and around BC Place. We’re planning on standing in this exact spot once every week during February to watch its transition.

As the Games approach, if there’s space for a flag to be hung, it’ll be hung. We’re seeing more and more of these every day.

Thanks to Vancouver sexiest new transportation gem, the Canada Line, anyone flying into YVR will get a good look at these Olympic rings as they roll towards the city.

Many major projects are wrapping up just in time for the Olympics, like the brand-new Woodwards Building.

It’s no secret that many folks vent their Olympic frustrations with graffiti. But there’s some pro-2010 stuff, too, as on this wall on Hastings Street.

With the goal of reducing traffic by 30 pe cent during the games, streets like Abbott are off limits. These last few cars made it through before the street was closed to traffic for a month.

This is a driver of Vancouver’s newest and greenest transportation line, the Olympic Line. It is a streetcar that runs between Olympic Village Station and Granville Island during the Games and it’s free.

Granville Street is a great place to check out the new artwork popping up around the city. It’s easy on the eyes and we hope the trend will continue, post-Olympics.

Vancouver’s beloved Canucks are a casualty of the Olympics. They’re off on long road trip to make their home, GMPlace, available to the Games.

These fans are vacating a Canucks game – a familiar sight after any game at the Garage.

Let’s face facts – hearts will shatter if Team Canada doesn’t win gold in men’s and women’s hockey. These fans were sporting the beautiful new sweaters designed by a Musqueam artist living in South Vancouver.
