Downsizers and new buyers see Vancouver’s Westside as an ideal location for their next home. There is a luxurious new development breaking ground at West Boulevard and 47th Avenue in Kerrisdale — one of the most established and sought-after neighbourhoods in the Lower Mainland — and it’s creating a lot of buzz.

McKinnon by Cressey builds on a legacy of excellence in innovation, function and sophistication in each of its 40 spacious concrete homes, which consist of condos, townhomes and penthouse-level residences.

With more than 45 years of building experience, Cressey has established a stellar reputation with the success of Sterling and Arbutus Ridge in Kerrisdale, West Vancouver’s Bellevue, and Beverley in White Rock, among many other master-planned communities. “Cressey’s focus has always been about developing great, livable floor plans, then executing on that design to build and deliver beautiful homes tailored to family living and entertaining,” says Jason Turcotte, vice-president of development for Cressey.

McKinnon will set a new standard in functional luxury. Every element has been well thought out and planned — from the interior layouts to the selection of high-end finishes — to redefine what townhome living is all about.

Each home includes wide-plank engineered hardwood floors, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, marble backsplashes, quartz countertops and islands, and master ensuite spa-inspired bathrooms with freestanding soaker tubs surrounded by floor-to-ceiling marble tile.

In keeping with the kitchen as the heart of the home, McKinnon showcases one of the largest, most functional CresseyKitchens™ ever built. “Cressey has perfected the CresseyKitchen™,” says Scott Trepp, principal at Scott Trepp Design. “In McKinnon, they’ve extended the circulation path to create a much larger kitchen. We also went for a square, stand-alone island that offers a lot of storage, while creating ease of movement in the kitchen.”

Cressey also offers upgrades, such as an integrated wine refrigerator, a built-in Wolf espresso machine and entertainment centre. To enjoy the great Vancouver views and sunsets, each home has a spacious outdoor terrace or balcony, some with built-in outdoor kitchens.

“We expect many buyers will be those who want that lock-and-leave lifestyle now that they’ve sold their larger homes,” says Turcotte.

“We’ve taken some of the best features from recent projects to offer something unique to McKinnon,” adds Turcotte. “More importantly, we’ve retained the best components of a single-family home while adding more functionality, such as positioning the powder room and full-sized laundry room off the entrance.”

Vancouverites are increasingly attracted to the townhome lifestyle as a middle ground between their current single-family, detached homes and condo living. McKinnon offers four luxurious two-level townhomes, each with direct access either via a private, double-wide garage, or right off a beautifully manicured mews.

Michael Ferreira, managing principal at Urban Analytics, a real estate and urban planning consultant firm, agrees. “Many active downsizers simply aren’t ready for the condo lifestyle, they still want that single-family home feel that townhomes provide without all the maintenance,” he says. “And for those moving up from an apartment, single-family houses are simply not affordable. They see townhouses as an attractive alternative.”

Ferreira went on to say that downsizers and new immigrants like the sense of security a townhome provides. “Security is particularly appealing in cases where the father is operating a business outside of Vancouver and the mother and children are often alone,” says Ferreira.

It seems the trend towards townhomes is one that will only increase with time. Cressey understands that well.
