12 B.C. companies make Canada’s Top 100 Employers

The annual competition uses eight criteria to select the country’s best places to work

Canada’s Top 100 Employers, an editorial competition that recognizes the best workplaces in the country, has released its 18th annual list.

Twelve B.C. organizations made the top 100: ACL Services Ltd. (Vancouver), BC Public Service (Victoria), Best Buy Canada Ltd. (Burnaby), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (Vancouver), ESIT Advanced Solutions Inc. (Victoria), Nature’s Path Foods, Inc. (Richmond), R.F. Binnie & Associates Ltd. (Burnaby), SAP Canada Inc. (Vancouver), Simon Fraser University (Burnaby), Teck Resources Ltd. (Vancouver), Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (Vancouver) and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (Vancouver).

Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the competition, described the winners as leading their industries in “offering exceptional workplaces for their employees.”

According to a press release, Toronto-based Mediacorp sifted through the recruitment histories of more than 90,000 Canadian organizations for the competition. Singling out 7,500 employers, it asked them to submit detailed applications. From there, each organization received a letter grade based on eight criteria: 

1. Physical workplace
2. Work atmosphere and social
3. Health, financial and family benefits
4. Vacation and time off
5. Employee communications
6. Performance management
7. Training and skills development
8. Community involvement
