Blackbird Security is keeping businesses across Western Canada secure with personalized security services and solutions
When it comes to business security, excuses, compromises and cookie-cutter solutions are out of the question. The only way to optimize this essential service is through personalized, solutions-based programs that fit individual needs.
This is the methodology that Vancouver-based security company Blackbird Security was founded on. Blackbird Security’s operational values originate from responding to the unique needs and feedback of the business community, and they have been a significant differentiating factor from its competitors.
“We found Western Canada’s security options lacking, as they were either too small to provide a full-service solution or too large to devise personalized security programs,” says Ranko Vukovic, chief operating officer of Blackbird Security. “Our mission is to offer all the service and reliability of a ‘big’ company, while retaining the personalization and flexibility of a much smaller operation.”
Blackbird Security has offices in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Regina. Its ownership is 100% local and private, and all the owners are actively involved in managing and running the business full-time.
“Our clients include large national retailers and property management companies,” Vukovic says. “We also service government and municipal contracts throughout British Columbia.”
The company provides the full gamut of security services, such as security guard service, concierge services and mobile security patrol services, but its true success is in its value —Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Adaptability—and in its personnel, who function together as a team and always will, no matter how large the company grows.
“We hire the best with industry leading compensation and benefit packages for guards,” Vukovic says. “We put our guards through intensive classroom and field training, guaranteeing high quality security industry professionals at all of our clients’ sites.”
Blackbird Security training focuses on verbal de-escalation tactics and situational awareness, giving the company’s security personnel the communication skills and tools to navigate difficult situations and ensure safety for everyone involved.
Blackbird Security’s mobile patrol service uses the latest technology to provide a highly effective visual and physical deterrent for criminal activity. “We have a large fleet of security vehicles throughout Vancouver and the rest of BC and can do mobile patrols anywhere in the province,” Vukovic says. “It’s a budget-friendly way to protect your business or property with professional boots-on-ground security.”
Across four provinces, Blackbird Security professionals have met new security concerns inspired by COVID-19.
“We are proud to be on the front lines of reducing the spread of COVID-19,” Vukovic says. “Following Public Health guidelines, we are ensuring that necessary physical distancing is implemented, providing a safe experience for shoppers at our retail partners serving essential services. As well, we are partnering with Island Health to provide security guards for their COVID-19 immunization clinics.”
Blackbird Security also has a division called Blackbird Technologies, which specializes in camera and alarm system installation and 24/7 monitoring.
“We have a GPS enabled app, which shares everything from incident reporting to guard location with our clients in real time,” Vukovic says. “We tie this technology together with our guard services to bring customized solutions for any security issue our clients may be facing.”
The team at Blackbird Security is also proud of its charity initiative, through which it has sponsored 2,500 breakfasts for Canadian children this year through The Breakfast Club of Canada. The company specifies 50% of its support towards children in rural Indigenous communities, and it has donated 50 hours of security services to The Breakfast Club of Canada’s silent auction.
Blackbird Security also gives back by providing complimentary security services for Covenant House Vancouver, which provides social housing for struggling youth; and by financially supporting various charities, such as ALS Canada and the Okanagan Food Bank. Blackbird Security has recently released a bursary program for Indigenous students looking to start a career in security through the Justice Institute of BC.
Blackbird Security is proud of the businesses it has supported throughout the years with regular security guard services, loss prevention, concierge services, mobile patrol and executive protection, to name a few.
“It’s a great feeling going to work knowing that what we do is protecting local BC businesses, keeping people safe and supporting our community,” Vukovic says.
