AbCellera founder Carl Hansen is one of three B.C. winners of the national EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards.
Something tells us that Carl Hansen might need a bigger shelf.
During a virtual ceremony yesterday, the founder, director and CEO of AbCellera Biologics was named Canada’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2021. This honour comes less than a week after the provincial Technology Impact Awards named Vancouver-based drug discoverer AbCellera its Company of the Year Anchor.

Before their latest victory, Hansen and AbCellera were one of seven Pacific Region winners in the Entrepreneur Of The Year program. As the leader among 10 national winners chosen from the 35 businesses that made the finals, Hansen will represent Canada in the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year competition next June.
Joining him on the virtual podium were two fellow B.C. entrepreneurs: Judi Hess, CEO of decision analytics specialist Copperleaf; and Rizwan Somji, CEO of e-commerce player and furniture dropshipper Cymax Group Technologies.

This marks the second straight time that the overall national winner hails from B.C. In 2019, before the awards program paused for a year because of the pandemic, Geoff Chutter, founder, president and CEO of Whitewater West Industries, became the first British Columbian to take the top prize.
