If the JUNOs are any indication, the state of B.C.’s music industry isn’t so grim

It appears that 2012 was a good year for musicians from B.C. Led by Mission’s ubiquitous Carly Rae Jepsen and her global top-selling single “Call Me Maybe,” our province’s musicians are moving units and grabbing industry acclaim.

Consider that half of this year’s JUNO Fan Choice nominees hail from the west coast, and that B.C.’s nomination total paces well-ahead of what we’ve come to expect, based on population.

The nominations beg the question: is the B.C. music scene actually in pretty good shape—or at least on the upswing?

The JUNO Awards kick off Sunday night from Regina.
