Best Buy Canada names Ron Wilson the new president and COO after Mike Pratt’s recent departure

On March 5, 2013, Best Buy Canada announced Ron Wilson as the company’s new president and COO, taking over for recently resigned Mike Pratt, who had held the position since 2008.

Wilson has been Best Buy’s senior vice-president of merchandising and eCommerce since 2008 and has been leading the company’s e-commerce vision and strategy. He began his career with Best Buy in 1991, working at an Edmonton Future Shop store.

After Wilson was named interim president, in February, Best Buy director of communications Christopher Bennett commented that he was a strong internal candidate: “He has everyone’s confidence and support—it was well received by the organization when he was announced as the interim. And Ron is one of the candidates that they are looking at for the permanent position.”

In a statement regarding Wilson’s appointment, executive vice-president and president of Best Buy International Shari Ballard said he has been a longtime integral part of Best Buy’s success. “His exceptional leadership skills, broad operating experience and strategic agility make him the right person to lead the organization during this important time as we look to continue our Renew Blue transformation across our business,” says Ballard.

Adds Wilson: “I am very excited to take on this role with a company that I know so well and truly believe in. While we are clearly not satisfied with our recent performance, Best Buy Canada and Future Shop brands remain strong and I am committed to ensuring that we are well positioned in the market far into the future.”
