The tie clip is making a formal reappearance in the workplace.

The era of free love – the 1960s, of course – also heralded a decades-long move toward free dress in menswear. The result is seen in today’s offices, with open collars, denim and graphic runners embraced (at least in B.C.) as suitable workwear. But the pendulum is slowly swinging back, thanks to a cabal of nattily dressed music and movie celebrities such as Sean Combs, Bruno Mars and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who are embracing a new sartorialism. Three-piece suits, once the province of barristers and bankers, now jockey for position on the red carpet. As a result, forgotten accents, like the tie clip, are reappearing in everyday office attire.
