Emcee Steve Dotto presents a Social Media Award to Personal Protection Systems.
The third-annual Social Media Awards returned to Victoria on Tuesday night as part of Social Media Camp, the largest event of its kind in Canada.
Created in 2011 to honour “innovation, creativity and excellence,” the program recognized nine winners in categories ranging from Excellence in Customer Service to Best Personal Blog.
Organized by locals Paul Holmes and internet marketing firm Bwest Interactive founder Chris Burdge, the awards drew almost 100 nominations from across North America, with winners mostly based in B.C., with Chicago-based Sprout Social being the lone out-of-towner taking home the gold for Best Business Blog.
Emceed by radio personality Steve Dotto, the cozy but sold-out ceremony of about 120 people was true to its discipline: unwieldly, loud and chummy to the extreme, with cat-calls from the crowd interrupting Dotto’s ad-libbing.
“This is the only exclusively social media awards in Canada,” says co-founder Holmes. “I’ve seen winners and judges flaunting their wins and involvement a ton this year. There is a lot of clout in taking one of these home.”
Below is a list of all nine winners.
