To show support and raise money for the people of Ukraine, local podcast YVR Screen Scene is hosting a gala fundraiser at the VIFF Centre. The evening focuses on a screening of Maidan, a 2014 documentary by Ukrainian filmmaker Sergey Loznitsa that covers the 2013-2014 civil uprising against then-president Viktor Yanukovych.

The fundraiser, which takes place on March 30 at 6 p.m., will also spotlight a live performance from bandura musician Ruta Yawney. Hosting the night are Ukrainian Canadian actor Adrian Petriw (The Dragon Prince) and, of course, podcaster Sabrina Rani Furminger (host and executive producer of YVR Screen Scene), who is a Ukrainian and South Asian Canadian.

In addition to the film screening and live music, YVR Screen Scene is putting together an online auction. (Items on the block include memorabilia, autographed collectibles and filmmaking services donated by folks in the local film and television industry, so you know theres going to be some cool stuff.) The auction will run from March 21 to April 4.

All funds raised from both the gala and the auction will be donated to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. Heres the deets:
