Animoto represents another you-know-what in the wall for Victoria-based Redbrick

The digital marketing firm has purchased New York-based Animoto for an undisclosed amount

Victoria-based Redbrick has come from humble beginnings. Founder and CEO Tobyn Sowden, a UVic grad, started the company as a digital marketing firm in 2011. Eventually, Redbrick focused on building software to help digital entrepreneurs thrive.

In 2019, the company set its sights on a goal of $100 million in annual revenue. With the addition of New York-based Animoto, announced today, Redbrick will be surpassing that goal and reaching an international headcount of 200 employees.

Animoto is a cloud-based video creation service that makes it easy to create and share videos. “Animoto’s role in Redbrick is really important as it allows digital entrepreneurs to tap into the power of video which is the fastest-growing way to reach people online,” said Sowden in a release. According to Redbrick, Animoto supports over 70,000 customers and millions of users breaking into video marketing.

The Redbrick portfolio currently includes marketing automation, a no-code website-builder and lead-generation platform, as well as productivity tools.

“We are thrilled to be joining Redbrick and embarking on this exciting new chapter,” said Brad Jefferson, CEO and co-founder of Animoto. “Working with Redbrick will open new doors for Animoto as we continue to grow, bringing even more innovative features to our customers. After 16 years as an independent company, Animoto and our customers have a lot to gain by being welcomed into the Redbrick family.”

It’s yet another you-know-what in Redbrick’s wall as the company has acquired U.S. firms like Leadpages and Delivra in recent years.
