A Vancouver video game developer announced today that it’s branching out.

With a new publishing division, independent mobile game creator Hothead Games is turning some of its attention toward assisting others in the industry, using its expertise in analytics, marketing and monetization to help fellow companies’ games in various stages of development.

“Because Hothead has built our own publishing infrastructure to support our internally developed games, we know first hand how complex it is to develop, publish and support mobile games,” said Gregan Dunn, the company’s director of publishing. “We are immensely excited to use our expertise to support up-and-coming developers and help them achieve the success they deserve.”

Hothead has thrived in mobile gaming with franchises such as Big Win Sports and Kill Shot. Another Hothead title, Hero Hunters, was 2018’s most successful new IP (intellectual property) launch on mobile. Collectively, its games have seen more than 300 million downloads on iTunes and Google Play.

For its publishing division, the company is seeking F2P (free-to-play) mobile games in any genre with strong performance indicators. Approved developers will retain all IP rights unless they choose to sell them, while Hothead will retain publishing rights.

Steve Bocska, Vlad Ceraldi and Joel DeYoung, who previously worked at now-defunct Vancouver-based video game developer Radical Entertainment, founded Hothead in 2006. Ian Wilkinson, a founder of Radical, has served as president and CEO of Hothead since 2009.
