To help us choose last year’s 30 Under 30, we sent each candidate a series of questions to see what made them tick. Here’s how Matias Marquez, Founder and COO of Buyatab Online Inc. responded.
What motivational quote gets you going?“A quote that has really stuck with me over the years has been a famous one from apple: Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.’ When you are disrupting anything, many people will think you are crazy.
Beyond family/friends, who inspires you to succeed?“My fellow Buyatabers. It is amazing the level of commitment and excitement the Buyatab team has towards the success of the company. I don’t know anything that can drive you like the commitment of extremely talented individuals who care so much about something you started.”
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?“There is no such thing as a free lunch and make sure you don’t take one.’ This concept was introduced to me by my first economics professor and I have found it extremely applicable in my life. I always try and repay those who do things for me especially if they don’t expect anything in return.”
What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?“Go to school and then work for a big company.’ I didn’t take the advice.”
What’s your biggest fear?“Failing, I think the fear of failure is a powerful and motivating thing. Not to mention that failing sucks.”
What’s your biggest regret?“Every time I find that more than a week has gone by and I realize I haven’t called my mom. I’m getting better at it.”
What’s your favourite TV show right now?“At the moment it has to be Making a Murderer on Netflix. I am a sucker for good documentaries.”
Favourite magazine?“The Economist.”
What song is on repeat on your device right now?“Anything by Kanye West.”
A little-known fact about me is “I might have an addiction to American Politics.”
