The Jim Pattison-owned chain of family-style resorts has been looking at Squamish for a few years. Recent confirmation from Great Wolf Lodge vice-president Keith Simmonds confirms the company is considering South Surrey for a reported $150-million, 400-room hotel and water-park complex, as reported in the Peace Arch News.

But Squamish is favoured by roughly two to one by Facebook followers, some of whom noted that a South Surrey location wouldn’t make sense for anyone living in the area because the water park is reported to be for exclusive use by hotel guests. One follower noted: “I wouldn’t want to spend that much $$$ to stay at a hotel 10 minutes from home.”

And yet, another follower suggested an entirely different location: “This is the type of economic driver and tax-revenue project Maple Ridge needs. Industry isn’t moving here due to our location and lack of a decent business park.”
