The website’s 1,600 businesses can now connect with their customers on-the-go

Love Northern BC users will soon notice an improvement in site performance. The platform, which was created to support local businesses competing against online retail and chain stores, has launched a new mobile-friendly version of the community’s website, said the Northern Development Initiative Trust in a release. The trust, which was created to foster economic growth in Northern B.C., hopes the update will help connect the 1,600 businesses on the site with their customers.

“Local businesses are the backbone of the economy in the North. Through the Love Northern BC platform, we are able to showcase the unique businesses that call our communities home,” noted Northern Development CEO Joel McKay in the release.

The original website, initially designed in 2011 to be viewed on a desktop and only meant to support 50 businesses, has been overhauled after a 2017 analysis showed nearly 50 percent of its traffic came from mobile devices.

Visitors to the site will be invited to make an account through which they can receive email updates, get notifications and create lists to keep track of places of interest.
