Flytographer and Terramera will participate in the Lazaridis Scale-Up Program

British Columbia is well represented in the second instalment of a national program that helps tech companies with big potential grow their business and compete globally. The Lazaridis Scale-Up Program, run by the Lazaridis Institute at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, has named 10 businesses to its latest cohort. Two are from B.C.: Flytographer, a Victoria-based online vacation photographer booking service; and Vancouver’s Terramera, which specializes in plant-based products for agriculture, the pest control industry and consumer use.
Flytographer also just took the No. 16 spot in the 2017 Startup 50, Canadian Business and Profit magazine’s ranking of Canada’s top new-growth companies. The tech firm, founded by former Microsoft Corp. marketing manager Nicole Smith, posted two-year revenue growth of 776 per cent.
For the Lazaridis Scale-Up Program, the top 10 companies went through a rigorous selection process, starting with review of applicants by a panel whose members included Canadian and U.S. venture capitalists. Over the past year, businesses in the first cohort saw significant revenue growth, improved the efficiency of their processes, and advanced their capabilities in areas from sales and marketing to talent management and finance, according to the Lazaridis Institute.
