Kitimat is a community situated on the North Coast of B.C. at the head of the Douglas Channel. We are entering a period of rapid growth, which provides great opportunity for investment and new businesses to establish and thrive in the community.
Until recently, Kitimat’s economy has been primarily driven by the community’s largest employer, and B.C.’s only aluminium smelter (Rio Tinto BC Works), which presently employs about 1,000 people in the area. However, Kitimat’s history and economy were forever changed in 2018 with LNG Canada’s commitment to build our nation’s first LNG export facility. This $40-billion project is the single largest private investment in Canada’s history. LNG development will significantly increase Kitimat’s population in the coming years, and will provide an abundance of high-paying jobs.
Beyond LNG Canada, there are also several other major industrial projects proposed for the community. These conditions make Kitimat a natural opportunity for business and investment.
