ESC Automation

Building automation and energy management company ESC Automation is one of Western Canada’s best systems integrators

Surrey-based ESC Automation is a full service building automation and energy management partner for building owners and operators. It manages each project closely, from integrated system design and installation to on-site staff training and building automation service and mechanical maintenance. The company’s client focus along with a “do it right” philosophy have helped make ESC Automation one of Western Canada’s best systems integrators, one with 30 years of building automation experience across thousands of sites.

ESC Automation solutions are found in P3 projects like the Royal Jubilee Hospital, the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, and the Gold LEED certified Kwantlen University and UBC Earth and Pharmaceutical Sciences buildings.

ESC provides these clients, amongst thousands of others, a single solution to manage all their building controls, which include heating and temperature control, indoor air quality solutions, HVAC mechanical servicing and CCTV camera systems integration, amongst other systems. Integrating these systems into one solution means that even complex multi-site facilities are easier to manage and cheaper to run.

Founders Brian Goodchild and Raymond Rae formed Energrated Systems Consultants Ltd. in 1980 to help building owners save energy. At that time, they had little idea the company would evolve in two Canadian success stories, Delta Controls and ESC Automation. Delta Controls is now a leading independent BACnet manufacturer of DDC building automation products and software, with more than 300 distributors in over 70 countries. The two companies operate separately, although they are housed in the same Surrey headquarters. ESC acts as Delta’s distribution arm for B.C., Alberta, Greater Toronto, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, as well as Washington and Oregon.

ESC general manager Jim Van Spronsen explains the reasoning behind the company’s philosophy. “We’re committed to providing the most appropriate system for any given project and ensuring it operates trouble-free,” he says. “If something doesn’t work properly, we fix it. If something breaks later on, we fix it. And we don’t go home until the client is satisfied.”

Delta Controls and ESC is collaborating on a joint venture company, Coppertree Analytics. With the knowledge that the future of building automation will focus on optimizing systems performance and minimizing energy use, Coppertree is part of the emerging building energy management industry that uses sophisticated algorithms and analytics to provide fault detection and energy management services.
