La Mezcaleria | BCBusiness
Vancouverites desperate for more authentic Mexican cuisine can halt their search. One of the newest neighbourhood spots on Commercial Drive offers foodies a taste of the mezcal trend hitting many major cities paired with delicious dishes replete with genuine Mexican flavour.
Mezcal is an agave-derived liquor that’s a kissing cousin to tequila, and is the not-to-be-missed feature on this menu for spirits lovers. The expansive list sets this place, opened in April, apart from the Lower Mainland’s other tequila bars.
The cosy space screams authenticity, from the top-shelf, imported liquor to the patterned tile floors, which were also shipped from Mexico.
Open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday, La Mezcaleria is simultaneously an extension and expansion of the concept initiated by owners Marcelo Romero and Ignacio Arrieta at their popular La Taqueria restaurants. The food menu features those restaurants’ original “pinche” taco varieties, with added traditional dishes, including fresh ceviche, enchiladas and tostadas.
For a full-fledged Mexican meal, opt for Carnitas and Rajas Con Crema tacos, and pair with a mezcal cocktail (the margarita is particularly refreshing) or a single-ounce taster. (lamezcaleria.ca)
