How to Play Pétanque

Perhaps you’ve never delved into the excitement of pétanque, but don’t worry—Lawn Club experts will be on hand to teach you the rules. Or get a head start and brush up on the game beforehand:

• Divide into two teams and decide who throws first.
• Toss the cochonnet (little beige marker ball) while standing in the starting circle.
• Teams then rotate, taking turns to throw their boules as close to the cochonnet as possible.
• The team with the closest boule to the cochonnet earns one point for each of their boules that is closer than their opponent’s closest boule.
• The team that gets to 13 points first, wins.
