With its natural beauty in a coastal setting, the city offers a blend of rural and urban opportunities with big city amenities and a welcoming small town feel. A lively downtown, affordable housing, and mild, West Coast climate that allows for an unparalleled lifestyle are attracting young families and professionals to the area.
The city is a natural choice for companies looking for a highly accessible location, abundant natural resources, high-speed communications networks, and a skilled labour force. “We have companies in Campbell River that have discovered they can live in this great place while operating a global company,” says Rose Klukas, economic development officer for the City of Campbell River. “Businesses and entrepreneurs in Campbell River are being supported by a local government that is interested in modern business development.”
The city is undergoing an exciting period of community and economic development. Embracing new economic prospects and attracting the industries and workforces of the future, Campbell River’s economy continues to diversify. With a proud history in forestry, mining, and fishing, as well as flourishing tourism and aquaculture sectors, Campbell River has a supportive network for companies interested in further developing the supply chain and producing value-added products.
Promoting innovation and technology, the city has invested in a progressive municipal broadband network. CRadvantage, as it is called, provides access to affordable, high-speed internet connectivity scalable to one gigabyte per second for businesses and residential developments in the city’s downtown core. This supports emerging opportunities in the technology and creative industries sectors.
Campbell River is the first municipality on Vancouver Island to offer a municipal broadband fiber-optic network. “Having CRadvantage helps level the playing field for people who are interested in moving to Campbell River from larger centres,” said Klukas. “Internet accessibility at this speed will put businesses here on equal footing with competitors in downtown Vancouver, Palo Alto, or New York City, but at a fraction of the cost of living or doing business in those cities.”
Just three hours north of Victoria, Campbell River is the third largest city on Vancouver Island. The local airport offers daily flights to Vancouver, which take less than an hour, while ferry service to the mainland is just 90 minutes away.
