A new ban on foreign real-estate buyers?

New Zealand, which has some of the most unaffordable house prices in the world, plans to prevent non-residents from purchasing existing homes. Land sales to foreign buyers, particularly from China, Australia, the U.K., U.S.A. and Hong Kong, increased almost sixfold from 2015 to 2016, according to The Guardian. Only a quarter of adults in New Zealand own their own home, compared with half in 1991.
