Final two residential towers complete Concord Pacific’s vision for fast-rising downtown

Concord Pacific is excited not only by the fact that the two-tower Park George is the final phase of its master planned Park Place community, but also because this residential development is located in Surrey City Centre, one of the most exciting hubs of technology and business ever to emerge in Metro Vancouver.

The excitement is understandable, considering over $11 billion of upgrades and investment went into creating a modern, identifiable downtown core for Surrey City Centre, and this has triggered innumerable other public and private initiatives, including Innovation Boulevard (a partnership between academic institutions, Fraser Health and the City of Surrey) that is attracting small and large health-related tech companies.

Many new commercial and boutique retail businesses have sprung up in the region; preliminary work has started on the future 27-kilometre South of Fraser LRT project; and amidst all this is Park George, a testament to the city’s shifting population and priorities.

As the final component of Park Place, Park George with its 39- and 36-storey towers fulfills a distinct need in Surrey City Centre. Surrey is quickly becoming Western Canada’s leader for innovation, so accommodating residents requires a unique building approach. Concord Pacific, which since 1987 has helped define Canada’s skylines with master-planned communities, has ensured that Park George and Park Place seamlessly integrate into the city’s tech revolution in several ways.

By proximity alone, Park Place is in the middle of Surrey’s tech and transit hub. Located just east of the King George SkyTrain Station, the seven towers comprising this community situate residents whose companies or schools are based in Surrey City Centre just minutes from their places of work and learning.

In addition to being close to the action, the Park George towers are fully outfitted to reflect the lives of those who reside in them. Twenty years ago, Concord Pacific was the first developer to equip its buildings with fibre-optic cables, as well as the first developer almost 10 years ago to provide EV (electric vehicle) parking in its underground parkades. This degree of forward thinking continues with Park George’s future-proof amenities and technologies.

Recognizing that connectivity is vital for tech-savvy millennials, Park George will take on a “live connected” concept starting with the Campus Work Lounge, which boasts semi-private work and meeting rooms, a private videoconference room and a wet bar. The space will open up to an outdoor barbecue terrace, a virtual spin and yoga studio and a sports lounge. Upper-level amenities will include an indoor swimming pool, spa and outdoor hot tub theatre. Wi-Fi connections in all common areas, wireless charging surfaces, NFC main access, and refrigerated parcel storage will round out communal “live connected” features.

It is estimated that about 1,000 people are moving to Surrey every year and pushing the city’s median age to under 40. As the city continues its trajectory to become the largest city in B.C. by 2041, it does so by building on its reputation formalized by fDI Intelligence, which recognized Surrey as one of the Top 10 mid-sized cities for Business Friendliness and Connectivity.

Grant Murray, Concord’s senior vice-president of sales, concludes, “Our residents like the capability of having 24/7 connectivity anywhere, which enables them to work, play and socialize at their own choice of time and place. Flexibility, individuality, and networking are the keywords nowadays, and our vision is to design buildings that best suit this lifestyle.”
