Real estate sales data for the week of September 1 to 7 sourced from real estate boards across the province by Zolo Realty
It’s not surprising that the most-expensive property sold last week was in the well-heeled Vancouver neighbourhood of Shaughnessy. Not only is the community known for large homes on expansive lots (many are an acre), but recent headlines have focused on short-term rentals of large homes that explode into big parties and even bigger headaches for neighbours. Then there was the man convicted of running an illegal gaming operation out of a $4-million residence. (In early September, he was sentenced to one day in jail.)
The Shaughnessy property that sold last week was listed for $4.98 million and sold for $4.5 million, according to data analyzed by Vancouver-based Zolo Realty on behalf of BCBusiness. The renovated 1922 Georgian-style home with six bedrooms and five bathrooms spent just 10 days on the market.
The second-priciest home to sell last week was in Central Okanagan. The single-family residence sold for almost 96 percent of the $4.69-million price tag, but it took 175 days for the sale to finally come through. Apparently, the sellers were confident that the waterfront home, located on 1.79 acres with 145 feet of shoreline, would eventually sell to close to their asking price, says Zolo director of content Romana King.
“As expected, the sales activity last week was subdued,” King notes. “Back to school and the end of summer (with its last long weekend) often means slower sales activity and fewer firm contracts.” Of the properties tracked, only 8 percent sold for list price or more. Another 66 percent sold between 90 percent and 99.99 percent of asking.

Sales data was obtained from B.C. real estate boards by Zolo Realty on behalf of BCBusiness. The type of information from each board may vary. Because real estate records are amended and updated daily, information is always changing, and it can take three months or longer to reflect final statistics.
Zolo was launched in Vancouver in 2012 by tech entrepreneurs Riley Best, who had previously started and sold a U.K online dating site, and Jason Billingsley, who had helped found a business-to-business e-commerce operation. Looking for a new venture, the pair realized that real estate was ripe for disruption. Their primary interest was sales data, but to gain access and monetize it, they needed to be a licensed brokerage. The result was Zolo, headquartered in Vancouver, with offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Regina.
More than six million home shoppers a month start their search on Zolo.ca, which posts real estate tips and timely statistics, too. It also helps owners sell their homes, either on their own or through an agent.
