Lawmakers are questioning big data and algorithms on social media platforms, data breaches from Equifax Inc. and Uber Technologies Inc. exposed millions of users’ personal information, advertisers have boycotted YouTube over extremist, abusive and inappropriate content on its site, and 62 per cent of Americans consider online harassment a major problem, according to Vanity Fair.
