Technically, it‘s still Beautiful British Columbia, but the end of summer is proving to be a smoky one. According to CTV News, the same wildfires that have destroyed thousands of hectares of trees and filled the sky with thick smoke have put companies in B.C.’s resource and tourism industries on high alert. Last week the provincial government declared a state of emergency as more than 600 blazes raged. Most businesses won’t know until later how big an impact the fires had on their revenue, but if this is the new norm, some may not be able to rely on the same summer revenue they’ve seen in the past.
