Why Volkswagen is getting into the car-sharing business

More than a decade after services like Zipcar and Car2Go entered the market, Volkswagen will start to roll out its electric car-sharing service in Germany next year and into major global cities in 2020. The decision could help boost demand for VW’s planned lineup of electric vehicles, like its first battery car, the I.D. hatchback, due to start production next year.
