Vancouverites are stingy tippers

A tipping trends report has found that the average tip in Canada is 13.8 percent. The biggest tippers are in Regina (average tip of 15.8 percent) and the cheapest are in Vancouver (12.8 percent). People in smaller cities like Whitehorse (15.4 percent) and Yellowknife (15.1 percent) may be more generous due to a greater sense of collectiveness, while Ottawa’s average tip of 15.3 percent may be thanks to tourism and government officials with expense accounts. While Vancouver sees a lot of tourists, however, the significant Asian population might be influenced by traditions back home where tipping can be seen as rude, embarrassing or even illegal.
