On February 20, more than 170 influential Vancouver women joined hosts Fiona Forbes and Karen Khunkhun at the CKNW Orphans’ Fund’s fourth annual Pink Shirt Day Ladies Luncheon. The event, held at Vancouver’s Blue Water Café, raised more than $45,000 through a silent auction of more than 60 donated items and a live auction hosted by Fred Lee with packages.
Pink Shirt Day started in 2007 after two students in Nova Scotia witnessed a younger student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The students bought 50 pink T-shirts and encouraged schoolmates to wear them as a message of solidarity. CKNW was inspired by the story and to date has raised more than $650,000 for anti-bullying programs in British Columbia through the sale of Pink Shirt Day T-shirts.
This year’s Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday, February 25. Official T-shirts are sold at London Drugs.
