Vancouver International Airport partnered with London-based developer McArthurGlen Group with plans to open the 459,600-square-foot retail mall on a plot of land beside the Templeton Canada Line station.
While YVR is a hub for international stopovers and in-bound tourists, the mall’s primary market will be shoppers from the Lower Mainland who typically head south to designer outlets in the U.S. for luxury bargains.
Following consultation with Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and Richmond city councilors, the airport authority moved the planned site from beside BCIT’s aerospace campus on Russ Baker Way to the northeast corner of Sea Island. The mall will be a 50-50 joint venture between the airport authority and the London-based developer. “We’re relying on McArthurGlen Group with respect to the leasing of the facility,” says Tony Gugliotta, YVR’s vice president of marketing and business development. “They are in the process of negotiating with the over 800 brands they have relationships with, and there’s been very strong interest. But we aren’t making any announcements just yet.”
The planned development will be just off the Sea Island interchange, adjacent to the Templeton Canada Line Station
