Shorter days this time of year mean longer nights for sleeping
On November 4, B.C. residents can enjoy an extra hour of sleep as daylight time ends. Some would like to see the twice-yearly time change abolished, though. In September, 52.3 percent of Union of BC Municipalities delegates passed a resolution to kill daylight time. The next step is to petition the provincial government to wind down the practice. Elsewhere, the European Commission, executive of the EU, received 4.6 million responses to an online survey from July 4 to August 16. Almost 85 percent favoured keeping the same time year-round.
Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler has a new two-night sleep therapy package. After a 75-minute Kundalini massage, guests can sip chamomile tea or unwind in a rooftop hot tub. Back in the suite, there’s a cosy fireplace, deepsoaker tub and organic lavender bubble bath, and a comfy king-size bed with a sleep therapy pillow, which can be taken home.
Sweet Dreams are made of this: lavender, ylang ylang, spearmint and clary sage. The line of products from Silk Road Tea, with shops in Victoria and Vancouver, includes bath salts, a diffuser blend and a roll-on wellness blend. Pleasant scents can help us relax and breathe more deeply, which can aid sleep, explains Silk Road owner Daniela Cubelic.
Another sleep-aid producer, Dream Water Canada, was recently acquired by Vancouver-headquartered Harvest One Cannabis. The plans are to expand Dream Water‘s line of liquid sleep shots and powder packets (active ingredients melatonin, 5-HTP and GABA) to new product lines that include oral spray, liquid suspension and soluble powder containing CBD and/or full-spectrum hemp.
