Vancouver-based meat company makes important acquisition

Deal will continue emphasis on sustainable, locally grown meat

Vancouver company Meatme.ca, an online platform that delivers sustainably and ethically raised meat, has acquired a fellow B.C. business in the Barons Meat Company.

It’s an arrangement that makes sense on the surface, as Barons prioritized a farming system that is “more than organic,” “beyond pastured” and “as close to wild as possible.”

In fact, the companies are located a short three-minute drive from one another in Vancouver’s downtown.

As a result, according to a press release, Meatme.ca will takeover the Barons Meat Company’s existing customer base. “Customers will continue receiving their curated meat packs and now also have the option to buy from Meatme.ca’s selection of products,” says the release.

“Meatme.ca will implement [the Barons Meat Company’s] subscription model over the next months to offer new and existing customers the option to order a customized box of their favourite products, effortlessly delivered to their door every month.”

Barons co-founders Dillon Zolnierczyk and Cameron MacDougall released the statement below:

“Meatme.ca has shown such an amazing, passionate, and powerful connection to the farm-to-table movement, and we would not trust The Barons legacy to go anywhere else. Combining our forces will empower our community of small farms, improve our customer experience, and have the greatest impact on BC’s economy. Expect amazing.”

Meatme.ca was founded by Victor Straatman and chef Trevor Bird and is only available in B.C., but the company is looking to expand to other provinces and to the United States.
