The CKNW Orphans’ Fund helps children with special needs

The 37th annual CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pledge Day, held December 4 at the Terminal City Club, raised $1.9 million in donations for children with special needs. Broadcast live on CKNW News Talk AM980, the event was hosted by station personalities and featured philanthropists, business leaders and special guests including Michael Buble, Ryan Beedie, Don Lindsay, Kirk McLean and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.

The CKNW Orphans’ Fund began in the early 1970s with listeners expressing compassion and generosity on the station’s talk shows, evolving into the public “Pledge Day” format by 1977. It is dedicated to assisting children with social, physical and mental challenges living in B.C. communities, providing funding to individual children and organizations for a variety of developmental needs, with an emphasis on therapies, educational bursaries and specialized medical equipment.
