Now and in the future

This list is not meant to be exhaustive in any way—we’re just hoping to highlight some Black-owned businesses and get them on your radar. Let’s get to it.

Batiqua

Though its brick-and-mortar shop remains closed for now, the textile maker’s online store, featuring fair-trade, ethically sourced textiles made in Zimbabwe, is open for business. It’s a great source for throw pillows, place mats and table runners alike.

Devi Arts Collective

Devi Arts Collective makes handmade jewelry in their Vancouver studio. They create nature-inspired jewelry using ethically cut gemstones recycled silver and gold. You can find Devi’s products in shops across the city, too.

Ice Kol Kut

Back open again, the Commercial Drive barber has five-star reviews across the board on Yelp.

Karibu Soapz

This local business creates unique, handmade soap bars using natural, locally sourced ingredients. It also incorporates recyclable material like milk cartons and cardboard containers as moulds.

The Lion’s Den Café

The Fraserhood Caribbean restaurant is now open for takeout and is serving up tasty brunch dishes from morning to late afternoon.

Locus Restaurant

This Main Street haunt currently offers takeout and delivery of its traditional pub fare with some interesting twists (think miso poutine).

Sade Thomasos Nutrition

Sade Thomasos bills her business as “trying to helping women become the best versions of themselves. This is not a diet but a lifestyle that allows you to feel more inspired, mindful and intentional.”

Her 12-week program includes one-on-one consultation and meal planning.

Salt N Sear Catering

Jacques Kabuya, who caters events large and small out of East Vancouver, is happy to customize his service to your needs.

Sleepless Mindz Clothing & Design

The “Witches of Gastown,” who specialize in media and event production, also showcase cannabis education, awareness and understanding through several ventures.

Below is a longer list from food delivery service @feedingmama, who gives credit to meal prep/catering service @kulakitchen for starting and updating it and artist @kenziecatessongs for designing.
