The seven companies, three of which are in the tech sector, made their way to Deloitte's prestigious list
While most British Columbians were busy grudgingly getting over the week’s hump day, 47 businesses celebrated their crowning in one of the country’s most recognized business awards. Today, professional services giant Deloitte announced the new winners for Canada’s Best Managed Companies. The competition highlights privately owned businesses from across the country with more than $15 million in annual revenue.
Deloitte, which has offices across Canada, attributes the winners’ success to increased investment in technology and talent, innovation and cross-border business. Those that made the list demonstrated the ability to plan for the future and potential challenges.
“Their success is a result of taking a deliberate approach to build strong teams and a vested interest in the future development of their talent,” Dino Medves, senior vice-president and head of commercial banking at CIBC, one of the program’s main sponsors, said in a release.
The numbers support their mindset. A recent study by Deloitte showed that companies making choices with their sights set on long-term success post 47-percent higher average revenue.
Local businesses also grabbed a piece of that pie. Seven of the winners, nearly half of which are in the tech sector, hail from B.C. They were:
ACL Technology Vancouver
Canada Drives Financial Services Vancouver
Copperleaf Technology Vancouver
Pacific Centre for Reproductive Medicine Health Care Burnaby
StemCell Technologies Technology Vancouver
VMAC Manufacturing Nanaimo
Whitewater West Industries Waterparks & Attractions Richmond
With a growing economy in B.C. and Crown and non-profit programs to support entrepreneurs, more local businesses could make the list.
Besides the new winners, Deloitte recognizes companies that have retained their status for two, four and seven years in a row with its Best Managed, Gold Standard and Platinum Club awards, respectively.
