To honour the contenders in our second Women of the Year competition, we’ve created video interviews with finalists in eight categories.

For this instalment, we chatted with Jennifer Twiner McCarron, our Equity and Inclusion Champion winner. Twiner McCarron is CEO of Thunderbird Entertainment, a 1,000-person content studio whose many film and TV productions include Kim’s Convenience, Molly of Denali and Queen of the Oil Patch.

“We feel deeply to have a responsibility that every person, regardless of race, ethnicity or gender, can see themselves in content reflected back in a positive light,” says Twiner McCarron, whose Vancouver-based company works with Amazon, Netflix and Walt Disney Co. “Nothing drives us more than to create an environment where we’re lifting new and authentic voices and storytellers. Not only is it the right thing to be doing, it’s actually proving to be very good for business.”

The runner-up in the Equity and Inclusion Champion category is Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, chief people officer with British Columbia Lottery Corp.
