BCBusiness will announce the 2017 30 Under 30 winners on April 13. In the meantime, here’s what a 2016 winner had to say last year
To help us choose last year's 30 Under 30, we sent each candidate a series of questions to see what made them tick. Here's how Madeleine Liu, Co-Founder of Culitech Tableware Co., responded.
What motivational quote gets you going?
“I am motivated by a collection of wisdom accumulated through the years, peppered with ideas that inspire me. Each idea comes from a past lesson, one that is a significant piece in my memory.
Beyond family/friends, who inspires you to succeed?
“I am driven to succeed by my desire to have an impact through social enterprise.”
What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Don’t be afraid or discouraged. If you often find yourself entertaining a particular idea, it implies part of you is interested in pursuing it. Now you just have to begin. The joy is waiting for you on the other side.”
What's the worst advice you've ever received?
“Advice is dependent on interpretation. To say that is it bad advice would be disrespectful to the person who took the initiative to share it with me.”
What's your biggest fear?
“Leaving the world without a worthy contribution, considering the resources it has made available for all of us.”
What's your biggest regret?
“That I spent time thinking about this question. You can reflect, but always try to move forward.”
What's your favourite TV show right now?
“ABC’s Shark Tank. It inspires me to see the business owners put effort toward their dream and feel rewarded when they obtain the deal they were seeking. I am also interested by the life stories of the Sharks and how they responded to their hardships.”
“I’m more of a book person, but I’d say BC Business sounds like a great magazine. It keeps BC locals up to date on the latest business news.”
What song is on repeat on your device right now?
“I truly enjoy relaxing piano music as well as upbeat melodies, depending on the ambience I’m looking to create.”
A little known fact about me is…
“I speak four languages, have a typing speed of over 100 WPM, and am interested in continued learning in various disciplines.”
