More than 100 guests and award winners attended Surrey’s inaugural Top 25 Under 25 Awards, presented by the Surrey Board of Trade. The awards acknowledge business and community-minded individuals under the age of 25 who are either working in Surrey or engaged in projects in or for the city, and are considered role models and leaders.

Keynote speakers Anthony Jones, Hunky Haulers founder/CEO, and Marco Pasqua, Hunky Haulers co-founder and executive director, shared their experiences as young entrepreneurs. Jones founded his first business—a commercial sub-contracting construction company—at the age of 19, with $600, and by the time he was 29, they were up $20 million in labour contracts. When Jones moved his business to the U.S. and the recession hit in 2008, it resulted in having to lay off over 200 employees and starting from scratch.

Pasqua, who is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spoke about facing adversity and how he started his own company as an inspirational speaker, which has resulted in him being involved with a number of organizations as a spokesperson, helping to spread advocacy for persons with disabilities across Canada.
